Portraits/Headshots/Whenever Session!

Last week I headed down to Farmington (yes, Farmington!) to hang with my friend Megan Thiele of Megan Thiele Studios. Megan is one of the photographers I really have to thank for helping me make it in this business. I got lucky a while back and her regular 2nd shooter had to quit; I got to shoot a bunch of weddings with her and learned SO MUCH. I'm happy to say that we've been able to become great friends. One perk of having photog friends is being able to trade sessions for website shots! My current photo is really outdated, and so was Megan's, so we decided something needed to be done about that. Look how cooperative they were! They were a little peeved that they were in leashes and NOT being walked...but still very well-behaved :)

Wow...this may be the longest I've gone without blogging! Things are crazy with being the end of the school year, and I'm actually transitioning to a new position next year! I have been 2nd shooting a lot but I've been too lazy to post those photos! The drought will be over here soon...this weekend I have Kelly and Jay's wedding, and Amanda and Brett's engagement pics on Sunday. Next weekend another couple of engagement sessions, so this blog will be back to regularly scheduled programming :) Thanks for being patient!

For you photo folks, here is a picture of the new lens I'm in love with. I'm glad I got it when I did b/c now it appears to be out of stock everywhere. It is VERY sharp!

Lazy blogger..

Sorry I haven't been updating! I have been shooting, but some of the stuff I haven't been able to blog. Friday night I helped with an event for Emmaus Homes with Brandi Brown and her hubby. It was a neat event attended by hundreds of really giving people. Thanks Brandi for having me along!

Saturday I got to help Clary Pfeiffer with a fabulous boudoir shoot down at the Bogen Lofts on Washington. The lofts were AAAAA-mazing. Clary had some gorgeous girls come through to have some beautiful pictures made for their fiances or husbands. I grabbed some absolutely gorgeous shots but unfortunately need to keep them under wraps :)

I do have a couple of weddings that I 2nd shot that could be blogged, so I just need to stop being lazy! In a week and a half our friends Sebastian and Robin are getting married, so expect a major blog post from their wedding.

Here's the lens Clary let me borrow for the boudoir shoot...the 85mm 1.2. I have the 1.8 and really don't pull it out too much. This lens produced some fabulous shots. I have heard that the 1.8 is better in low light b/c the 1.2 takes too long to focus. It worked great for this portrait shoot though!

MY BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

Okay to some of you it won't be THAT big...but to my family and those that have been following me over this past year, it is very exciting! I finally have an official website!!!

Of course I will still be sharing all my most recent work here on the blog, but my website will be where you can find all the information you need to know.

Oh, and I'm laughing at those of you who thought my big announcement was that I'm pregnant! Nope, just officially in business :)

Missouri Botanical Gardens

Last night Griff and I headed down to the Botanical Gardens for the Whitaker Music Festival. While we aren't totally in to jazz, it's always an excuse to pack a picnic and enjoy some wine with a zillion other St. Louisans. They currently have an exhibit called "Niki", which includes lots of big, colorful statues. I would suggest heading down and checking it out, the place is beautiful right now!

The following pics show a concoction invented by moi. We had leftover strawberries and angel food cake, so voila, strawberry shortcake on a stick!

These were all taken with my 28 1.8. It's taken me a while to get some shots that I like with this lens but I'm starting to get used to it!

Fun with Macro

This week rented the Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro lens from www.lensprotogo.com. I've been wanting this lens for a while, and since I can't afford it due to purchasing the 5D, rental was the best option! This way I can cram in 7 days of fun Macro shooting! It's more difficult than I thought it would be. Here are some pretty flowers from our yard, followed by some cool ring shots.

Yesterday I did a shoot with my friends Ryan and Daina, and though the rain ruined most of our session, I got some cute stuff that I will hopefully post in the next couple of days!

Easter Beagles!!!

Anyone that knows Griffin and I knows that we have had some major struggles with dogs lately. After losing 2 dogs in 2 months, we kept swearing that we'd wait a long time before we got another one. It's just two heart-breaking! Well, we can never keep our word on that one, so earlier this week we adopted not just one, but TWO 3-month old beagles. The poor things were covered in ticks and soaking wet from living outside. After a vet-visit, they appear to be pretty healthy! So forgive us if we haven't told you yet about the pups, but we have just been quiet about it because of our past luck. It really is a happy Easter for us!

First Second-Shooting Gig!

Last weekend I had the opportunity to second-shoot with Alisha Clark. I've mentioned her here before, but I really do appreciate that she was nice enough to take me along with her! She let me use her backup 30D, which was a learning experience, and also let me use some of her good lenses. And, I got to use the 70-200 that I blogged about earlier.

This was a very small wedding held at the St. Louis Club in Clayton. It was short as Alisha was only hired for a few hours. I did my best to stay out of her way while still trying to get some good shots. I think a couple of mine turned out really nice! Here are my favorites from the afternoon.

In a few hours I'm off to assist with my first wedding, with Alisha Clark. She is a great photographer, so check out her website! She is bringing me along out of the kindness of her heart, and is going to show me the ropes a little bit.

Yeah, it's bigger than my camera...

New Flash!

So today I plunked some more money down on my new hobby! Isn't it pretty? This is the Speedlight 580EX II...now I need some time to practice using it. Too bad school starts back up Monday :(

Now that I'm officially invested in my new hobby (photography), I thought I'd start a blog to track my progress! I definitely have a LONG way to go to understand everything there is to know, but I'm excited.

Here is the equipment that I'm learning to use! My Canon Rebel XTI came with the kit lens, which is just "okay". After doing a lot of research, I purchased the EF 50mm 1.8 lens which is supposed to take great portraits. Unfortunately it's been raining all weekend and I haven't had the chance to put it to use!
